"It largely fails to deliver on its promise of helping humans communicate across languages. If you have a lot of patience and absolutely no knowledge of the language of your interlocutor, Skype will be a fun way to say hello or deliver a simple message. But for anything else, you’re still better off using broken English and body language."
Why do I need a team for conference Interpreting?
Conference interpreting works differently than other forms of interpreting. It requires the use of a sound proof booth and special equipment. The interpreter is not physically close to the parties involved. S/he listens through earphones and verbally transmits the message at the same time as uttered by the speaker. Given the physical and mental fatigue conference interpreters sustain due to their high level of concentration required in the simultaneous mode, they work in teams.
The number of interpreters in a team and the make-up of the team are to be determined according to the hours of work, the working languages, the mode of interpretation and the type of conference.
For simultaneous conference interpretation there are Industry Standards such as the ones specified by the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC).
