Newsletter #2

"It was early 1954 when computer scientists, for the first time, publicly revealed a machine that could translate between human languages. The scientists believed a universal translator, once developed, would not only give Americans a security edge over the Soviets but also promote world peace by eliminating language barriers. They also believed this kind of progress was just around the corner. The process proved far slower. More than 60 years later, a true real-time universal translator — a la C-3PO from Star Wars or the Babel Fish from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy — is still the stuff of science fiction."
"When GoogleTranslate generates a translation, it looks for patterns in hundreds of millions of documents to help decide on the best translation for you.“But automatic translation is very difficult, as the meaning of words depends on the context in which they're used. This means that not all translations are perfect, and there will sometimes be mistakes or mistranslations."
The Language Industry Association of Canada (AILIA) is looking for corporate members in good standing to run for the Board of Directors during our 2016 elections at the AGM.
If interested, please contact me for details. Thank you.

Empowerment Tips
Do you know someone with depression, anxiety, heart disease,
Alzheimer disease, diabetes, autism or another chronic condition? If yes, then, you may be interested to learn about the importance of gut's health:
  • 80% of our health resides in the gut
  • The health of our gut is directly related to all major illnesses
  • The digestive system is directly connected to brain activity
  • Good bacteria in our bodies must outnumber the bad bacteria
  • The health of the microbiome is directly related to the food we eat
  • The gut is the biggest immune system organ
  • 80%-90% of the amount of serotonin in your body is manufactured by the nerve cells in your gut. Antidepressants are often less effective in treating depression than dietary changes are
  • Chronic stress creates gut permeability and inflammation
How can we improve our gut's health?
  • Make sure we have healthy bacteria by regularly consuming probiotics
  • Probiotics can be found in the form of supplements and/or by eating certain foods such as live-cultured yoghurt (read the label as many are loaded with sugar or artificial flavours) or fermented vegetables (sauerkraut or pickles), probiotic benefits are only present in unpasteurized foods. Home made is better as some commercial ones use vinegar and additives
  • Reduce sugar intake
  • Maintain a healthy level of cortisol (stress hormone)
  • Avoid products with fructose
  • Exercise
  • Eat healthy fats
  • Reduce intake of processed foods, they are loaded with toxins
  • Reduce intake of fast foods
  • When shopping for groceries, read the labels, most packaged products are full of additives, sugar, salt, bad oils, chemicals, toxic colours, etc.
  • Eat live foods, when possible organic
